After a short night that followed the evening before, we met at the venue in the morning around 9:00 and I was bound to meet Frank with his List of Early Successor. These were the first succeeding kingdoms after the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC, which fought over supremacy of the territories once controlled by him. Some of the armies of the succeeding kingdoms have unique army lists, such as mine which is depicting the Seleucid kingdom from 206 BC onward. Frank's list is to be found in the army-list companion "Immortal Fire" and dated 92 BC. So, to be honest, his early successors are not that "early". </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<h4>
Frank's Early Successors were composed of: </h4>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
4 Troop-Commanders, who lead: </div>

<li><i>Thracian Cavalry</i>: Cavalry, Light-Spear/Swordsman, Superior, Armored, Undrilled, 4 Bases</li>
<li><i>Greek Hoplites</i>: Heavy Foot, Offensive Spearman, Average, Protected, Drilled, 6 Bases</li>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
All in all 797 Army-Points. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The army list - contrary to mine - relied on the use of Medium-Foot units for possible terrain. I won the initiative with the same +1 on his dice roll Frank had and chose agricultural. After all the dice were tossed, the table's terrain looked as followed: </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8PTnQ-1VTiUEV3i4mRuwRTTT3f36a9mx7bbDyfc_Ta7p-4C5AmGES02esxMQv29Dhj9rX8RDMD3cuydzT697ergCVG6thqr733N8FMQ-1UATHGWiUoSjfP6nKGoAQmbB3vteUDso0bB0c/s1600/Frank+-+table.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="777" data-original-width="1378" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8PTnQ-1VTiUEV3i4mRuwRTTT3f36a9mx7bbDyfc_Ta7p-4C5AmGES02esxMQv29Dhj9rX8RDMD3cuydzT697ergCVG6thqr733N8FMQ-1UATHGWiUoSjfP6nKGoAQmbB3vteUDso0bB0c/s640/Frank+-+table.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The two enclosed fields (EF) posed a heavy threat to me, as I have no units available to storm them against his medium foot without loosing dices. I would thus try to avoid them and delay the left flank as good as possible. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Schematically the table looked like this at the start of the game:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhockg_Dm689Ku7B9mWY-naM31ypss4dXoeQZVezP9F1778hRV-Ji4B16EjrLekecj9xT8_NnoX-caHOr4qQLV6Ovsb2PkueoJzIIiNMJfV5ovlgPcUDrQTFS9ktO025GFoyqQwVcAjO174/s1600/Frank+Aufstellung.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="722" data-original-width="1280" height="361" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhockg_Dm689Ku7B9mWY-naM31ypss4dXoeQZVezP9F1778hRV-Ji4B16EjrLekecj9xT8_NnoX-caHOr4qQLV6Ovsb2PkueoJzIIiNMJfV5ovlgPcUDrQTFS9ktO025GFoyqQwVcAjO174/s640/Frank+Aufstellung.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My overall tactic was to use the cataphracts as I had done previously and kill the enemy horseman on the right flank with my superior armour. Frank protected his horseman up to a certain amount against that by placing his elephants besides the horseman. One does not want to send horseman fighting against elephants, as they loose 1 out of 3 dices due to the elephants smell and that neither armor nor swords count for PoA's. Thus, one would fight hitting on 5's with 3 vs. 4 dices which hit on 4's. So that's not a good prospect to win such an encounter. I had thus to use one of the line's pikes to counter the elephants - this turns the table here, but at the cost of overlaps within the main line.<br />
<br />
In the center, I planned to use my skirmishers to pull his battle-line apart and thus be able to create overlaps by myself. This takes some finger-play and timing, but would, if it worked, overcome the disadvantages of Franks overlaps - at least a bit.<br />
<br />
On the left, I would have to hold the enemy as long as possible and bind more points without getting hit in the flank. This would be hard, but maybe I could hold out long enough to win the right flank and subsequently the center without loosing to many units on the left.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBEnmLALwMMN7gEyv3t_9oLGpJE5aHOnJ1KoWcHxhNr-P4MCKzEStynSIl3okn7UGQzQH9WQtxTWXHgTgh3xvHvvxDfka-XULHNQc8dHEIwv3Cani7IxUVr1FH-mLUskZLTTkRudN6ec0O/s1600/IMG_20191215_102241.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBEnmLALwMMN7gEyv3t_9oLGpJE5aHOnJ1KoWcHxhNr-P4MCKzEStynSIl3okn7UGQzQH9WQtxTWXHgTgh3xvHvvxDfka-XULHNQc8dHEIwv3Cani7IxUVr1FH-mLUskZLTTkRudN6ec0O/s320/IMG_20191215_102241.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
On the right, my <i>Pike </i>came to contact the <i>Elephants </i>with one base width during impact, limiting the dices which hit on evens (3vs2 instead of 6vs4). Using the general in front rank to boost my re-rolls (on 1 instead of none), which was not possible to Frank (as elephants can only get better re-rolls with generals mounted on elephants, which are not available to his army) raised my chances further. This comes at a risk: if two hits are inflicted upon the unit, Frank may kill my general on a 12 if he looses or draws the combat, and on an 11 if he wins. After melee the elephants are on a net minus (hitting on 5's, whereas I hit on 4's) - which should solve the elephant problem after some time. If their death-roll after a lost melee goes wrong once, they are auto-broken and the problem is solved, otherwise they'll probably go down due to cohesion losses. They are powerful yet fragile creatures, thus it is important for the player to bring their full base-width into contact on impact. I managed to avoid that by charging myself - on my conditions. For elephants, it's simply do or die.<br />
<br />
I furthermore had to use two more generals (as Frank did, as well) on the right to make sure that my <i>Cataphracts </i>stood a chance in impact and afterwards against the quality-wise better <i>Xystophoroi</i>. Here I had to survive the impact (on evens - both hit on 4's), to have enough bases and dices to kill him during the ongoing melee turns, where Franks horseman would be hitting on 5. But, having 3 out of 4 generals in melee, I'd need to delay the main lines impact, as having only one general available would be a high risk - all the more since I was on a disadvantage there.<br />
<br />
And then, there was that problem on the left to be taken care of.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkC9CBPtv9bSVbRw7tfZjx6jcwiesEQYB_97_vKVlODv6MoDvudQmu10GTgyECTWsrsfAbMkgCQ7TkVXlhyphenhyphenxucPlZ0bmoETotcNC7oBVZpX_R6-iv1M9URQnlU2TiHQgLCCfsrfyBRDv6d/s1600/IMG_20191215_102824_BURST001_COVER.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkC9CBPtv9bSVbRw7tfZjx6jcwiesEQYB_97_vKVlODv6MoDvudQmu10GTgyECTWsrsfAbMkgCQ7TkVXlhyphenhyphenxucPlZ0bmoETotcNC7oBVZpX_R6-iv1M9URQnlU2TiHQgLCCfsrfyBRDv6d/s320/IMG_20191215_102824_BURST001_COVER.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Between the two enclosed fields I used my two <i>Elephants</i> <i>(together 100pts)</i> to hinder the <i>Thureophoroi (48pts) </i>as well as the <i>Thorakitai</i> <i>(60pts)</i> from getting into the flank of my main-line. In the open, the chances would be good for my elephants - but in the fields I'd loose any fight. So we both stood locked in a stare-down that would be solved only if Frank would manage to break through my <i>Agyraspides </i>who stood guard at the elephant's flank:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnC6jHsBfmqw_oGXDCFW_Ac-ug9jd92Kq3CQN-zmi2YksnqEU9b5BMil4vKZL3UvOv983bApLUQi85Rc3b1j7RxKquGCTf9kNuBx-KU5FhEayT3dXHG1yeC18MW8Sf2y5Yc7HyI94el3fz/s1600/Frank+links.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="403" data-original-width="643" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnC6jHsBfmqw_oGXDCFW_Ac-ug9jd92Kq3CQN-zmi2YksnqEU9b5BMil4vKZL3UvOv983bApLUQi85Rc3b1j7RxKquGCTf9kNuBx-KU5FhEayT3dXHG1yeC18MW8Sf2y5Yc7HyI94el3fz/s320/Frank+links.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
My <i>Agyraspides </i>were able to bind Frank's <i>Thracian Cavalry</i> and <i>Hoplites </i>for some turns, but as they did not loose a level of cohesion, the Cavalry made a disengaging move. The following turn my Agyraspides went crazy and charged the Hoplites against my will. While the lads were still stuck with the Hoplites, Frank moved himself into an outflanking position with the remaining two bases of cavalry and charged as it was his turn again.<br />

Thus I hoped for the best when intercepting their charge with my elephants. To be honest, the situation between the fields was rather dire. The Agyraspides broke after putting up a 2 full turn fight with opponents in their flank, and my Elephants did not perform good enough in the impact phase against his Thureophoroi and thus exploded due to too many hits they received in Frank's melee-phase (and a subsequent 1 for their death-roll):<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">First Elephants go home, bringing danger to their friends on the right</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
After the <i>Agyraspides </i>broke, this put the other <i>Elephants </i>into a rather dire situation, as they were threatened from the front by the <i>Thorakitai </i>and from the side from the <i>Thureophoroi</i>, who made a 90° turn in the meantime. Lets swing over to the center before we resolve that situation, and have a look what happened here in the meantime.<br />
<br />
In the center I wheeled my battleline in order to prevent frank from getting good overlaps from the start and used my light foot to trigger his shock units into charging, such that his battleline would open up which would give me the chance to create overlaps by myself. Suffering from overlaps can get very ugly very quick for <i>Pikeman</i>, as they do not want to loose bases or cohesion in order to keep their PoA's.<br />
<br />
Sadly, I only now after more than 1 year came to revisit the blog, found this draft and am thus not very sure about further details. It seems while the interesting action above took place, my pikeman and cataphracts on the other side of the table tore his line apart. I slightly remember the elephants opposed to the Thorakitai charged next and broke them, bringing themselves to safety whilst pursuing the broken unit. <br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
All in all I lost 8 out of 14 Attrition Points, while Frank lost all the 13 out of 13. As I was able to break his army, the result reads (in the Swiss 25/0 System <a href="https://the-tabletopper.blogspot.com/2019/12/field-of-glory-santas-tournament-2019.html">introduced in the report's first part</a>) as a 5,7:19,3 in my favour.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So after game 3 I had moved up to place 3 and the total scoreboard read as follows:</div>

And after a digital game of canvas eagles - maybe some pictures on that later - I met up with a friend to enjoy the great spring and a game of Maurice on the terrace. I highly recommend to listening to <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQt4wiGz5jM">Benda's Concerto for Flute in E minor</a> while reading this report to get you into the right mood. <br />
<h4>
About the game</h4>
Maurice is a game designed by Sam Mustafa which is based on an action-cards system. I was rather reluctant when I had my first game some time ago, but started to enjoy it more and more ever since. The basic mechanic is a deck of cards which each give a specialty and a range in base-widths. These may be used by the player to activate a force of his for a certain action (charge, march, rally) or to modify the outcome of a certain action or fight. For each action the player regains a certain amount of cards (charge 0, march 1, rally/shoot artillery 2 or if you pass the turn, 3). So gaining and holding the initiative is as important as good card management. And dices are of importance, as well.<br />
<br />
We played a hypotetical clash of Luis XV's French and a Force of Frederick the Great. Besides buying units using a quite straight forwards points system one can by so called national advantages which give the whole army an improvement in some field. As we designed the army we chose complementing doctrines: The Prussians would have a supreme commander and high firepower, allowing them to re-roll failed wounding dices after they hit. The French on the other side would rely on guard units and supreme charges.<br />
<h4>
The army-lists </h4>
<b>The Prussians</b><br />
<br />
spend 12 points for "Lethal Volleys" and 12 points on the "Great Captain"<br />
And then take 4 units of regular cavalry (each 6 points), 6 units of regular infantry (each 6 points) and 4 units of conscript infantry (each 4 points) adding up for a total of 100 points.<br />
<br />
<b>The French</b><br />
<br />
spend 9 Points for "Maison du Roi" giving them access to the guard infantry and 12 points for "à la bayonette!" which allows to re-roll combat dices if the player wants to. <br />
They furthermore take 2 units of guard infantry (together 14 points), 8 units of regular infantry (each 6 points), 1 artillery piece (1 point) and 4 units of conscript cavalry (each 4 points) with them, adding up to 100 points as well. <br />
<br />
<br />
The dices decided that we would meet in a forested environment, and that the french would have to drive the Prussians off the objective. Thus my opponent would have more cards and the first turn - and try to drive me off.<br />
<br />
Before setting up the actual forces the notability which leads some of the units is drawn from a card deck as well. They can give advantages or disadvantages as well and some events might affect the opponent and some yourself. Turned out that my commander was suffering from the gout and thus be back to a rather normal one. A fate I may relate to.<br />
<br />
After deploying forces the table looked as follows, with the objective in the village within my half:<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Damn, such battles can be bloody confusing! </td></tr>

This meant for one of my units to be moved by my opponent deliberately into the line of fire. During each turn it is first that the active player decides weather a firefight between all units with muskets shall break loose. He then starts the firefight and the passive side goes second. Afterwards he decides which action to take as described above. So I was forced to bring that unit out of a possible firefight later in the game: move retrograde for 2 cards while facing the opponent was the only solution available. But the stuff was going to get nasty anyways:<br />
<br />

</tbody></table>
So with these moves I was hindered from firing a single shot before the lines hit each other. Not a very good situation to be in. And "en avant" the french guard threw themselves into my first line of conscripts. Melee in Maurice is very straightforwards: each unit has a base-value determined by their skill and rolls one dice. The skill value and possible other modifications (I had two cards of "attack falters" on hand, reducing each french unit played upon for a -2) are added. Dice higher: win the combat, double the enemy: destroy him. If you attack and draw you loose as well. The winner of a fight looses one level of morale, the looser 2. If a unit reaches 5 morale/death markers (yellow plastic dots here) it is broken and removed. <br />
<br />

But the French charge did not go as expected: While they were able to break the <a href="http://www.kronoskaf.com/syw/index.php?title=G-VI/G-VIII_Pl%C3%B6tz_Grenadiers#">Grenadier Infantry Regiment No.6</a> during their charge, the<a href="http://www.kronoskaf.com/syw/index.php?title=Zastrow_Infantry"> Musketeer Regiment No.20</a> held the ground repelling the french charge - even though being only conscript Infantry in this game. But the french threw a 2 and thought it good to re-roll it due to their ability. It turned down to a 1 - what a pity. This short stop gave the Prussians the time needed to unload their steady musket fire upon the enemy. In the meantime the force of Laurent van Hussen moved into position on the Prussians right flank as well: <br />

The hours on the parade grounds drilling the lads with their muskets proved useful for the Prussians. Some minutes later the frech guard was shot, but the heroic 20th Musketeer Regiment as well as some other Prussians, including van Hussens body lay dead upon the battlefield, too. Under losses Prussia hold the ground and swept the french right flank.<br />

If a unit is lost in Maurice, the impact it's death has on the overall morale is not clear. For each unit a dice is rolled resulting in a loss of either one, two or at worst three morale-points. At this point of the battle we both have only 2 respectively 1 morale-point left. The next unit dead is going to decide the game for sure. After the french came that close, I decided that after the firefight there would be a charge. The last charge decided the battle - the damage done during the previous firefight was to heavy - and the last French unit did the most french thing possible and fled the battlefield. A great battle, close until the very end came to a not so clear result, given only two morale-points left on the Prussian side, too. da Boszhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01310884643504885742noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2631153551467883416.post-60327944888363725582019-12-26T18:28:00.003+01:002019-12-29T12:39:58.872+01:00[Field of Glory] Santa's Tournament 2019 - Game 2, Part 2<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
My pikes were busy keeping the horseman to their front. After being close enough to charge, those horseman then had better insights concerning the stability of my ranks and two of them decided to charge, breaking through a unit of skirmishers.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The result was, as expected, meagre. Both lost fragmentation and the unit on the right decided to loose a base as well during close-combat. In Field of Glory, mounted units which are fighting (more than 50%) steady foot troops have disengage during joint-action phase. But as the skirmishers which were broken trough during the impact phase where still in the way. Thus the disrupted unit had to stay in touch with my pikes and automatically lost another level of morale. I already considered these eaten.</div>

</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now, as my turn broke, my pike (pictured in the overview as the second from right) decided to charge the skirmishers hindering Dave's horseman from retreating. This gave him some room he would need for the horseman to survive. Loosing another base in melee, he then was finally able to break free from my pike, fragmented and at 50% strength. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In the next turns I was able to close in, while he did not rally his men. As my pike then went to charge the fragmented unit from a close distance, this meant for them to check whether the shaken men on the ground do not rather want to flee. They didn't, and as Dave toffee-nosed told my stunned self, they where not considered shock mounted anymore (due to being fragmented) and only one rank deep (due to loosing 50% of bases in combat), thus there was nothing hindering him from evading my charge. Well, they did not want to evade that fast (dicing a 1; =3 inch), while my pikeman where quite pissed for their brazen use of the rules and diced a 6 (=5 inch). Catching them in the rear sealed their fate and made Dave's quibbling on the exact use of the rules pointless.</div>

The most outbound pike had some different trouble during the meantime, as they were surrounded by horseman, lancers cavalry to the front and light horseman in the flank. This can be a rather sensible situation for the pikes, as they rely heavily on having 3rd and fourth rank facing forwards in order to gain their points of advantage (PoA's) while fighting.<br />
<br />
As these tactics prooved to be not working against me or my dice, I learned jet another thing about FoG-Rules. As the pike is facing in two directions after the two mounted units did their break-off, it is not allowed to charge in my next turn. It is not allowed to charge while facing two directions. And as reforming to a normal formation happens at the start of the maneuver-phase, which is after the impact-phase, the pike can't charge in its next turn. </div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As the center-field was cleared from horseman, I got a little bit overconfident with one of my light-foot units. As Dave did not rally the light foot unit which was broken through gaining 2 hits with shooting seemed a way to gain more attrition points from his army. This brought me in to close and was not secured by my pikes enough. So Dave maneuvered his skirmishers into a flanking position. As there was no way to evade the charge I had to take him fighting. Winning the impact against all odds, the idea seemed to work at first. But soon the unit broke, either by loosing 2 bases out of 6 or by cohesion levels. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As the game continued, charging my units into front and side at the same time turned up no good for Dave. Even though he forced one pike into an orb formation, the results for him were just not existing. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So after all, the right side was totally cleared form Dave's units and as he had lost two more on the left side, he offered me to leave it at that approx. 10 min. before the 3,5 hrs. of tournament-time were over. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This left this game with a loss of 10 attrition (out of 16) on Dave's side, while I lost 6 attrition (out of 14). The end result was thus a 8.1 : 11.9 in my favor. The Bosporans lost a good ammount of their nobility, while my losses were rather insignificant for the persistence of my nation. A clear victory, and by no means a draw. If you'd like to know why Dave pointed out it's been a draw: read his report. 😜</div>

</div>
<h2>
it's a draw, it's a draw, it's a draw </h2>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As I started writing the entry, this year's Santa Tournament in Berlin came to an end just a few hours ago.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Thus, and as the unofficial Field of Glory website in Germany is currently shut down and many old forums such as the tiny-soldiers dead, too, I decided to write some small reports on my battles and post the results here. Sadly I made that decision just after the first battle was over, and as there is no documentation of it, there won't be a report either. So you may or may not enjoy only 3 out of 4 of my struggles with dice, moral and alcohol. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The tournament's secret motto and running gag was "it's a draw, it's a draw, it's a draw!". We shall get to that later. Ferdi organized the tournament and provided some space to sleep in his Berlin home close to the venue for our guests from abroad. He limited the armies allowed to 400 BC to 600 AD, without any Asian or American Lists. Thus a load of Pikes and Romans with some exotics were to be expected. I hence decided to play a strong line-up of Later Seleucid with 14 Battle-Groups (BG - which are units composed of the representative number of bases, for those new to Field of Glory). My army would be capable to fight Pikes as well as Romans, they are good against any mounted armies and can cope with specialities like Indians or whatever my opponents might think off, too. The only thing it lacks is sufficient Medium Foot for tasks in terrain. That nearly broke my neck in one of my games, but decent dicing skills - as they always do - helped a lot. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is the List in it's order of march: </div>
<ol>
<li>LF Slingers, Poor, unprotected sling, 6 Bases </li>
<li>LF Slingers, Poor, unprotected sling, 6 Bases </li>

<li>Cataphracts, Lancers-Swordsman, Heavily Armoured, Average, Drilled, 4 Bases</li>
</ol>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As commanders I took one Field-Commander to raise my pre-battle Initiative to +1, as well as 3 Troop-Commanders for the rest. I was able to field some of the pikes shown here in previous posts, yet still had to use some pikes of my very first attempts from my Graeco-Bactrian Army painted around 2010/2011.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Every Army is limited to 800 Army-Points. For the tournament, the so called "Swiss" or 25/0 system is used. This means, that each player starts with 10 points and, after the game is finishes, gives the % of his army lost to his opponent and vice versa. So if I manage to kill 60% of my opponent's army, I get 6 points from him, where he keeps the other 4. If he then is able to get 45% of my army, he gets 4.5 point from me. In such a situation, a final score of 8.5 (my opponent) to 11.5 is reached. It is possible to get 5 Bonus points if one manages to break the opponents army (=kill 50% of his Battle-Groups). This means, that a maximum victory without loosing any own units is a 25:0 game.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hence the maximum amount of points one can possibly archive during a tournament of 4 games is 100. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
First off all, the Line-Up, Nationalities [IOC-Code] their Armies and their Number of Battlegroups. I shall provide the List of my opponents, maybe I can remember one or another from watching or because Players had played them before. If so, the List will be filled with links to download in the Armylist-Creator as an .xls .</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was great to see such an international field with 5 of 14 from other
countries and 4 of 9 further German players not from Berlin. Against all
the negative rumours, the Field of Glory scene in Germany still seems
to be rather alive and well. So, here is the Line-Up: </div>

It seems as if my guess about the composition of the field of players were quite consistent and fitting to my choice of army. Only my lack of medium-foot or other troops capable to fight somewhere else than in open terrain might be a disadvantage. But then, there still is the option of out-dicing the opponent. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The venue was the house of a local charitable organisation, which is set directly alongside to the Müggelsee, one of the may lakes around Berlin. I marked the approximate place for those interested as location in the entry. From the room in which all the games where concluded, we had this view:</div>

I managed to play my skirmishers in such a fashion as to break up his battle line into smaller pieces and thus create overlaps against his units. All in all I do not remember that much of the game other then that our both dicing was beyond reasoning. Even though all in all average, we had subsequent turns in which one side had all the luck and the other just didn't.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Playing Richard was nice as always and ended with me breaking his army while loosing 9 attrition-points (= 4.5 units), thus resulting in a 18.6 to 6.4 in my favour. This result meant for me to now face a more experienced gamer, as I ended up place 4 after Round 1 was played.</div>

Contrary to the first round, the next turns are not set historically but dependig on the score. The first player plays against the second, the third against the fourth and so on. This means that I was up against Dave from the UK with his bosporans.</div>
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
My second Game</h3>
... was by all means not a draw.<br />
<br />
I played against Dave from the UK, whom<i> </i>I had the pleasure of fighting earlier this year during the summer tournament in Yenifoca. So I was up for revenge. Dave fielded a hoard of Bosporan consisting of a shit-load of superior lancers cavalry as well as some light foot and light horseman. His List read as follows:<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
After Dave (surprisingly - my dicing skills were not good enough to beat +2) won the initiative it was decided swiftly that the encounter would happen in the well known steppes of the Bosporan people, somewhere along the Krim peninsular. The barren, featureless lands were only interrupted by a single gentle hill in front of my left side of the table.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
After setting up our armies, this is how the table looked like: </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
After set-up, I unknowingly made a decision which would later on be in my favour and decided, that the pikes on the left side where fine by themselves and that the elephants would thus be needed on the right flank. I used one general to double move them in the direction of the hill and gained forwards traction with the other boys.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After all, the only point where my opponent had a good chance concerning troo-pquality, -amount and poa's was on my right. On the other hand, my designated Lancer-Cavalry-Killers were stationed there. If they'd survive impact on evens (both players need a 4 with 4 dice), where he'd have re-rolls on a 2, whereas I'd only re-roll 1's, if we both engage our generals. This was the picture after some turns: </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Dave decided that his light horse between battle lines on the right would do more harm than good, and formed two column to get the unit closest to the table-edge behind his rear. Failing the Complex Move Test on the unit depicted in a column he chose to leave them behind the main line a bit. As he was unable to reform the next turn, too, I gained one shot on them - which missed due to the shooting unit being poor. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is a lesson I took from all my games: poor units are great to trigger shock-mounted and shock-foot. But for anything else, especially fighting, they are absolutely worthless. I deliberately kept my Cataphracts (CT) a little behind the Agyraspides, in order to gain overlaps, as he would rather not charge my elephants. As he charged, the situation was as follows: </div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; text-align: right;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">First Charge</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My LH evaded the cavalry, which rolled high enough to have an impact into the CT as well. During the subsequent Impact phase, in which all my CT and the inner 2 of his Lancers had Commanders in the front row to improve re-rolling my right CT lost a base and his most center unit a cohesion and a base. It could have been way worse for me, and from now on, he would only hit on a 5 with most of his dices. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<br /></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Despite being Average, the CT proved to be worth their money. After the close combat was resolved, the centre CT was down to Disrupted as well. Dave's left unit lost another base and had to break off from combat, due to fighting steady foot. In Dave's turn the center CT lost another cohesion. During my turn I decided to raise the heat and attacked the disrupted as well as the steady unit with my elephant, bringing my Agyraspides into a threatening flank-charge position for the other unit. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDBc4JTylNocMfvUyPDBmsIAJVcQxMMHP4uhEamKseFiw6SmmLlL_uCzKAAYbCp2-rJVJGbodGatdM3Qqa9qcjwQ0BudjdHCtWsm1bs7KKwiacuLVf7hvvqCbmqpQ7ezVssKsllL2Kb-nr/s1600/Impact3.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="576" data-original-width="826" height="223" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDBc4JTylNocMfvUyPDBmsIAJVcQxMMHP4uhEamKseFiw6SmmLlL_uCzKAAYbCp2-rJVJGbodGatdM3Qqa9qcjwQ0BudjdHCtWsm1bs7KKwiacuLVf7hvvqCbmqpQ7ezVssKsllL2Kb-nr/s320/Impact3.PNG" width="320" /></a>This, honestly, was a risk, yet not one <span data-dobid="hdw">I took uncalculated. As the Cavalry would be on an evens in impact and on minus afterwards, the elephants would only have the advantage of having more dice (3 vs.2). But, my CT fighting his superior Units might need some flank-charge indicated support. After all, they are still only average. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span data-dobid="hdw"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span data-dobid="hdw">And the risk payed off. I managed to even kill another base from the lancers and disrupt them afterwards. Anyhow, during the turn I flank-charged, the right Cataphracts lost another base and were auto-broken thus - as they are just average. In the meantime his light horse on the other table-side were able to lay hands on my women and luggage stored not too safely in my camp anymore. 2 easy points for Dave. </span><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span data-dobid="hdw">Yet on the side in fokus here, I ripped his other two units apart with the elephants, and as his Lancers broke through. The other CT managed to loose a cohesion-level on the way there, too. But now, my early decision to bring in the elephants from the other flank came to play. </span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span data-dobid="hdw">As Dave broke through during his turn and continued pursuing the rest of my Cataphracts during joint action, he had positioned himself perfectly in front of the loaded barrel, which were my Elephants. Depicted on the right is the situation before an additional pursuit-move was made by the lancers. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span data-dobid="hdw"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span data-dobid="hdw">So, I was able to bring my Elephants within charging (=interception) range and put my Light horse just in Front of him, so that he could not evade me by moving straight ahead. I knew he would'nt have to charge the LH (as his move could end up or be intercepted by Elephants), but he knew as well that the positioning of my LH left him no chance but to turn and face the incomming stampede. </span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Malicious gossip would spread the word that I'd have had luck with my timing. Though I can't say I didn't, it is one thing to have good timing, but another to know how to use it for the most favourable outcome.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So to see what else happened during this time, let's have a look at the other side of the table, where my Pikeman were not only endagered by constant missle fire - which they didn't fear that much - but by reckless superior horseman as well. Watch your flanks was their maxim. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To be continued.....</div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
So let's continue with Step number<br />
<br />
7. Which is the highlight of the leather armour, made with Vallejo MC 70.951 White. I used a mix of accurate painting and drybrush as my coulour dries quite fast. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOea7Nrf5czPkHtc-37L2ODSNIHfjGjZWzYFgYQ9fIojGz44L_0LIZ1LW-N8eiRK9aV3eWpZtmIBQMP3HajArKQUwjN6C7vKcRU7nAM87fG8UNW4EqHjp7jVq84M5eOjSCXby00C_qE_A9/s1600/IMG_5695.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="148" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOea7Nrf5czPkHtc-37L2ODSNIHfjGjZWzYFgYQ9fIojGz44L_0LIZ1LW-N8eiRK9aV3eWpZtmIBQMP3HajArKQUwjN6C7vKcRU7nAM87fG8UNW4EqHjp7jVq84M5eOjSCXby00C_qE_A9/s320/IMG_5695.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
8. Now highlighting the red with Vallejo 70.957 Flat Red and the gold/brass with the original Old Gold.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5XUsTJ2Tc9zK2kxHUt1xTf5mki7XsrfBTvjqtR8zzXHpqsdYR2RpKhWkIDTwLFwffmJ9VgO4eS_ZAKEreVQ7QBrUikGCIC6rWE6W6IE7GEfy9DqxKX62iK-aCTpx4qTY9eQwDQM9xDBbA/s1600/IMG_5697.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5XUsTJ2Tc9zK2kxHUt1xTf5mki7XsrfBTvjqtR8zzXHpqsdYR2RpKhWkIDTwLFwffmJ9VgO4eS_ZAKEreVQ7QBrUikGCIC6rWE6W6IE7GEfy9DqxKX62iK-aCTpx4qTY9eQwDQM9xDBbA/s320/IMG_5697.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
9. After that, we get started with the flesh - I am using as middle tone the Andrea Colour AC-52, which I like espacially for ist verry dull result.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga2FqHnFadXPi6NerLp6qQyX6w-uPSxRj5CVah6RiJWL1t69tscElSsGZqJXrbI96ap9Q6BRBJTL0M-8_vcYBWlcW007O3JxNzqc5PofnxdhsXIN_wHFf5jA9z8fiqq4BfB5qEKAiHqPlu/s1600/IMG_5698.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga2FqHnFadXPi6NerLp6qQyX6w-uPSxRj5CVah6RiJWL1t69tscElSsGZqJXrbI96ap9Q6BRBJTL0M-8_vcYBWlcW007O3JxNzqc5PofnxdhsXIN_wHFf5jA9z8fiqq4BfB5qEKAiHqPlu/s320/IMG_5698.JPG" width="226" /></a></div>
<br />
10. The second flesh I am using is Foundrys 127C from the expert flesh set. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsusJdxevvWUdzLwhrw3JgvWqzNvnea64T5t3LJIBBSyPSiMZ-y7utOsv0yC7JXQTusE4wjamKdEG9UOQKM2KTXco-of5Al_Pnp2XsmxDHwvcH7rtQyaMjyGENp3UUvzLG_iyeNsBh_UI4/s1600/IMG_5699.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsusJdxevvWUdzLwhrw3JgvWqzNvnea64T5t3LJIBBSyPSiMZ-y7utOsv0yC7JXQTusE4wjamKdEG9UOQKM2KTXco-of5Al_Pnp2XsmxDHwvcH7rtQyaMjyGENp3UUvzLG_iyeNsBh_UI4/s320/IMG_5699.JPG" width="269" /></a></div>
11. So what is there still to do? Painting the back of the shields in Vallejo 70.872 Choclate Brown and highlighting the green - to do this I mix the green basecoat, Vallejo MC 70.980 Black Green with approx. 1/4 of Vallejo GC 72.034 Bonewhite. This creates a nice and warm lighter green.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibs3_alOshIb-IvUUJMFtYG3FMKKuH1KTg8hZnoH7mnZ4yGHewt8Z0liqPwVftNB_wy4dLQ3Da4ykRNVdj83C9mq4NHFqGwPQaVp35sDMoi71OncMDDk7y-HNqm9x6rqyo0h-PS5h0ubHP/s1600/IMG_5700.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibs3_alOshIb-IvUUJMFtYG3FMKKuH1KTg8hZnoH7mnZ4yGHewt8Z0liqPwVftNB_wy4dLQ3Da4ykRNVdj83C9mq4NHFqGwPQaVp35sDMoi71OncMDDk7y-HNqm9x6rqyo0h-PS5h0ubHP/s320/IMG_5700.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
12. Last, but not least the decals are set to place. THose are supplied by Little Big Men Studios. To give them a proper fit I cut once untill nearly the middle of the decal - by this way the better match the slightly parabole sheilds.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZo2DoG7PKmlDhfNMfvNZ7_XSbcD-RVwDajfRB7EifUlylbEg8_vApBjYar4y8l6g2-ioglCCOM1EPS1a8FCUlSCVirgXJ1c2_LBg5BEXAXG_tXFOJwadL6Ey-9X33KsOwl2qs45N72HVT/s1600/IMG_5701.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZo2DoG7PKmlDhfNMfvNZ7_XSbcD-RVwDajfRB7EifUlylbEg8_vApBjYar4y8l6g2-ioglCCOM1EPS1a8FCUlSCVirgXJ1c2_LBg5BEXAXG_tXFOJwadL6Ey-9X33KsOwl2qs45N72HVT/s320/IMG_5701.JPG" width="299" /></a></div>
To keep them im place a layer of Vallejo 70.520 Matt Varnish is applied, too.<br />
<br />
13. And to make the result complete, I paint the white on the shields - not highlighting the red. This gives the shields a more "freehand" appearance.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXKhny1LEDEWgrWw7DZjaYdX_P33J2qo5N6beEqEvUKrsrY96aHtpatCgN4w_WZ23P8nwrNKYkxyPS53wErmgmxRuCxKsdsiQ3GfPL1czny5A1yrZB3t74y3d4ZtwNb1Hub8i1BRLdYyUD/s1600/IMG_5702.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="119" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXKhny1LEDEWgrWw7DZjaYdX_P33J2qo5N6beEqEvUKrsrY96aHtpatCgN4w_WZ23P8nwrNKYkxyPS53wErmgmxRuCxKsdsiQ3GfPL1czny5A1yrZB3t74y3d4ZtwNb1Hub8i1BRLdYyUD/s320/IMG_5702.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Voilà! Now only the basing and their pike has to be done - I think that's going to happen tomorrow.<br />
<br />

Thus I'll provide some tutorials on different miniatures, showing some of the technique I am using as well as providing you with the intel which colours I am using.<br />
What is really important in painting miniatures: use the best materials avaliable - your work gets much easier with this method. Everybody who has ever tried drilling a hole into a wall using a cheap electrical drill might know what I am talking about ;) Buying cheap always means buying twice.<br />
<br />
So let's get started with some of Xystons Phalanglites: <br />
<br />
1. After priming them white I start with a black wash for the leather armour, which is supposed to be white - using black wash gives me the opportunity only to highlight the armour white afterwards, saving a lot of time compared to a "classical" 3 steps highlight approach.<br />

For the wash I used the Vallejo wash "lavado negro"<br />
<br />
2. While the wash dries, I prime all the golden/brass metal to come in Vallejo MC 70.878 Old Gold <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguphIcjvKpnXpAr8fJ95wbYej2HMViAvXh8Fvk8aNpAYX_xrHsNE12efEXEiBAbkKctcFHKjjhzyenfsH9xLL33h4pl47oAb0Wii-6Q7E3GsJ7PcVgHtmuZBaw5-tbmQpo76Zwk4S4jMOQ/s1600/IMG_5687.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguphIcjvKpnXpAr8fJ95wbYej2HMViAvXh8Fvk8aNpAYX_xrHsNE12efEXEiBAbkKctcFHKjjhzyenfsH9xLL33h4pl47oAb0Wii-6Q7E3GsJ7PcVgHtmuZBaw5-tbmQpo76Zwk4S4jMOQ/s320/IMG_5687.JPG" width="281" /></a></div>
<br />
3. Afterwards, it's time to do the green tunics - I use Vallejo MC 70.980 Black Green. Take your time doing a tidy job where the green tuches the armour - everything else is optional, as there are other colours to come to hide little mistakes you make here.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKDZ7LnEvfpvIlQ3om18Vo7ww9ZXQHJmrFng5EA90h2tN_0AN85SriM51_4ehKVvraDrAH7BnpQNsMaX4Hi_h9nBIawPFQS0LfuNvjWWcegqwBEvx4tF3qX5JulWLmbdXAnigRo4ZebOZQ/s1600/IMG_5689.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="232" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKDZ7LnEvfpvIlQ3om18Vo7ww9ZXQHJmrFng5EA90h2tN_0AN85SriM51_4ehKVvraDrAH7BnpQNsMaX4Hi_h9nBIawPFQS0LfuNvjWWcegqwBEvx4tF3qX5JulWLmbdXAnigRo4ZebOZQ/s320/IMG_5689.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
4. Then I add red for the helemts and swords, and leather for the belts which connect shield and sword with the bearer. Colours used are Vallejo MC 70.814 Burnt Red and MC 70.984 Flat Brown. When painting the leather, take care to do a tidy work - you dont want the brown on the leather armour. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPCofIcY2RQPkHvj6jbjK0FW4juB2XrkqD4eqMJEWt6LMO1MoY3_eulGrGK3mWfb4x5rXxJX_WpQG4SVMHaCE2DgHfqSJlhHk0o3V24zNu-1hzQnJ2rCnzsq1PLZCXFKemqFUTrIfJGqRH/s1600/IMG_5691.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPCofIcY2RQPkHvj6jbjK0FW4juB2XrkqD4eqMJEWt6LMO1MoY3_eulGrGK3mWfb4x5rXxJX_WpQG4SVMHaCE2DgHfqSJlhHk0o3V24zNu-1hzQnJ2rCnzsq1PLZCXFKemqFUTrIfJGqRH/s320/IMG_5691.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
5. Now to my "secret" method of giving the gold a nice brass appearance: I use Vallejo MC 70939 Smoke, which I water down a little as an Ink for the golden metal parts. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiepvVsTvkvlpqpRCvCI57Qc_0-CaNwhMM55Bsol4w1BPGFZSHTFthkHx25-RnUDihiI39458kKi90n2Y-vz8dKFiGESkyvAGsYgomTLugaJ_ox0MooHfcyJSW5y2ev5fdVwsqUzZO89Gqv/s1600/IMG_5692.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="171" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiepvVsTvkvlpqpRCvCI57Qc_0-CaNwhMM55Bsol4w1BPGFZSHTFthkHx25-RnUDihiI39458kKi90n2Y-vz8dKFiGESkyvAGsYgomTLugaJ_ox0MooHfcyJSW5y2ev5fdVwsqUzZO89Gqv/s320/IMG_5692.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
6. And to end the first part of this tutorial,the flesh is painted in Vallejo GC 72.043 Beasty Brown. Here you are able to cover those little mistakes you might have done while applying the green basecoat.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhov3PPdPbfg1WtuvqzsOaI2a1jRKD-z2gOOwjQG46mayLrkJgigiefBvTpbzA9hBhFUvbSX_FahYLMM5DbRM9biJKaR0wrgr7VO3wFzknSFNpBVu5IdfRDtPezzpf1U92kg8U-WE-bisHG/s1600/IMG_5693.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhov3PPdPbfg1WtuvqzsOaI2a1jRKD-z2gOOwjQG46mayLrkJgigiefBvTpbzA9hBhFUvbSX_FahYLMM5DbRM9biJKaR0wrgr7VO3wFzknSFNpBVu5IdfRDtPezzpf1U92kg8U-WE-bisHG/s320/IMG_5693.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So this is the final result of the first step - I applied all the basecoats, so I may continue with the highlights, which will be described in the next part. <br />

Turned out that despite beeing ferocious warriors, these warbands weren't as usefull I hoped they'd be, leaving me finishing 12 out of 13 players....<br />
I still like the miniatures, the fist unit is supplied by Corvus Belli, the other ones manufacturer is unknown to me - maybe one of you knows. Hope you'll like 'em.<br />

So this is the basing for the pike I already showed. I really think it really improves the look. <br />

Good that I bought them, this was one of the best deals I ever made, after I came to know there was a full roman legion fitted for Field of Glory in there! I painted them last year alrerady, but didn't find enought time to make the basing. As this is done now, here they are!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Decals are once again by Little Big Me´n Studios. I'll try to picturise all the miniatures I finished the last year but didn't put on the blog yet in the upcomming days.<br />

The miniatures are supplied by Xyston, and a friend of mine resculpted some heads, giving them more variety. Decals were supplied by Stephens Little Big Men, a supplier I can highly recommend.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipcjdQfc_mpV7eBmu6dj45X4hqyDQ4jdgVl6hHPjcj2H43I7vc1UpZ8WKm_f1U1V-XRhe0U-MvQEd3uTCTuz99402e4w50HQUd02rPbKcRf9hmbCWKD2yCXTeGZt6KcELTz-TUKSUXKBfx/s1600/IMG_5583.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="207" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipcjdQfc_mpV7eBmu6dj45X4hqyDQ4jdgVl6hHPjcj2H43I7vc1UpZ8WKm_f1U1V-XRhe0U-MvQEd3uTCTuz99402e4w50HQUd02rPbKcRf9hmbCWKD2yCXTeGZt6KcELTz-TUKSUXKBfx/s320/IMG_5583.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Untill today, I had to borrough my miniatures when it came to play an army with a descend number of pikes in it. After finishing this project, these days will belong to the past. I hope you like these. If you have any ideas for another project or recommendations concerning this one, leave me a comment in the section below. Enjoy! <br />

Today I managed to finish one unit of early medieval spearmans supplied by Legio Heroica.<br />
The terrain seen underneath was the price for finishing third in the last FoG tournament in Hamburg.<br />

<br />
In The Worlds 2016 touirnament in Charleroi, Belgium, I finished 10th of 30 competitiors playing a Wars of the Roses Yorkist army. Not only the belgian beer prooved to be quite effective, so did ,y unit of Liht Hores with Lances. To bad they were borrwed at that time. Luckily there were a lot of suppliers arround and one of thme hat some Corvus Belli miniatures to offer, which are sadly not produced anymore. I decided buying a untit of these Light Horse, and here they are:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMHyrSmOxTPXlnJOLGd3aY8pxCY-osbiSFeSD61ALvEWaYs-dS8FExuN10m_LaaOeXmmcPoMEVw-3B6ksE2f_7XC51CgP58dUIDfsT2T7WIFecaN-_6tzgs7ewyHdmwrcXBCcK3g2pktzF/s1600/IMG_5508.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMHyrSmOxTPXlnJOLGd3aY8pxCY-osbiSFeSD61ALvEWaYs-dS8FExuN10m_LaaOeXmmcPoMEVw-3B6ksE2f_7XC51CgP58dUIDfsT2T7WIFecaN-_6tzgs7ewyHdmwrcXBCcK3g2pktzF/s320/IMG_5508.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

But not only these few miniatures got finished last week. As there is a tournament in Hamburg coming closer, some more miniatures have to be painted. As I still had some basecoated, but not jet started crossbows waiting for colour, I decided starting with these. I don't think they'll prove as a good option to take in your Field of Glory army, but everyone should have some, as they sometime aren't optional. Have a look yourselves:<br />

As there is the new camera-equipment now, I feelt kind of in duty to use it showing you more miniaturesy I recently finished. These are four 15mm medieaval command bases used for Field of Glory. <br />The figures are supplied by Peter Pig, flags are LBM geenric Wars of the Roses, as far as I'm considered. Hope you like 'em!<br />

Hey there! I was recently able to finish my german support weapon plattons. I think the next thing to come up is a bunch of 28mm old High Elves I still got from my early wargaming times which are in a serious need of a new painting. <br />
But lets have a look at the pics! I hope you'll enjoy them!<br />

After finishig my Sparta project I had to move up to my next Field of Glory Army. About one year ago I bought a big bunch of Corvus Belli miniatures fitting the "Caesars Romans" theme which tuned out to be a good decision as Corvus Belli stopped producing their 15mm ranges some months ago. <br />
Luckily I had already bought enough Legionaries and stuff to build that army containing a lot of heavy infantry.<br />
Legionarys might be quite expansive but to my mind they are absolutley worth their points in Field of Glory as they are really tough bastards to fight against ;)<br />
<br />
As I'm not yet sure how many bases one battlegroup shall be formed of, I deided to build first two legions of 4 bases both containing 3 legionaries and 1 command base and lateron painting one more base in the same colour sheme so I'm able to put them together as one Legion of 8 without having trouble with two command bases. <br />

Today I continued my German SS Mortar Platoon by finishing the observer and the radio station. By now there is only the basing left for me to do before they will be ready for battle.<br />
Too bad I'm not yet sure how to deal with the high stands the battlefront miniatures have...<br />
<br />
Maybe there is going to be a step by step introduction on how I do the german camouflage later. If there are still people readig this Blog I#d be pleased if you tell me wether you'd like to see a tutorial like this or not.<br />
But first: have a look at the observer and radio team und enjoy !<br />

After long time I'm back in block again with a brief insight to my
latest project which is 15mm World War 2. As there is here in Berlin a
bigger group of people playing Flames of War, I decided to participate
in that gaming system as I already have some of the Battlefront
Miniatures. <br />
As these players started an Italy Campaign previously
there was not any other way to me than participating what will provide
me with much more motivation in painting miniatures.<br />
<br />
So
have a look yourselves at my recently painted Mortar Plattoon. Bases
are still WIP, but never mind. I hope you enjoy the miniatures and their
camouflage! <br />

You might now think: Oh my goodness, now he comes arround telling proud that he managed to finish his Sparta project after a so felt decade.<br />
But this is luckily not the case, as I finished them about a half year ago, palying them the first time in <a href="http://www.fieldofglory.de/wotans-halle.html?turnierID=610">Ulm</a> , claiming the fith place among 10 players.<br />
So now this is a complete view on the Spartan Citizen which are the core of this army. The other troops are going to follow in the next few days, so that you'll get an impression what messing with Sparta means.<br />
I hope you like them!<br />
